Siamese Leaf-toed Gecko

Fascinating facts about the Siamese Leaf-toed Gecko

• The Siamese leaf-toed gecko is the type species of its genus, meaning it set the defining traits for all Dixonius geckos when the group was first described. This anchors its place in reptile taxonomy and makes it the reference point for comparing new leaf-toed species. Knowing the type species helps scientists keep the whole genus organized.
• James R. Dixon, a herpetologist from Texas A&M University, lent his name to the genus Dixonius. By honoring a modern researcher, the naming highlights how recent scientists still shape our understanding of ancient lineages. It reminds us that taxonomy is a living conversation, not just a relic of the past.
• Its range stretches across Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, and the historic region of Siam, with the original specimen collected from the Dung-Phya-Fai Mountains in eastern Siam.
