• The greater bamboo lemur is the biggest member of its genus, weighing more than 5 lb (2.3 kg). This bulk is matched by a head-body length of about 46 cm, giving it a solid appearance among the forest dwellers. Its relatively long tail and powerful back legs let it launch vertically between trees, a trait that helps it navigate the dense bamboo thickets where it lives.
