- Azara's agoutis are often called jungle gardeners because they regularly bury nuts and seeds in the forest floor. They frequently forget the exact spots where they hide these food stores, and the unattended caches germinate into seedlings. This accidental planting spreads a variety of plant species across their habitat, enriching the understory. Their foraging habit therefore creates new growth without any deliberate intention.
- When an Azara's agouti perceives danger it emits a short, sharp bark, described as a little bark that the animal lets out when alarmed. This vocalization occurs during its daytime activity.
- Although Azara's agoutis are diurnal, they are extremely shy and will bolt and hide at the first sign of people, making them hard to observe in the wild. Their timidity may be linked to heavy predation pressure from many carnivorous species, including humans, and their solitary lifestyle may further reinforce this wariness.
