- A 1990 stomach analysis of 12 blue duikers showed their diet was 70 % dicotyledonous leaves, 23 % fruits and seeds, with the remainder foliage. A later 2001 study found nearly three-quarters of stomach contents were fruit, browse 15 %, and fungi and flowers each 5 %.
- Pregnancy in blue duikers can be as short as four months or stretch to seven months, reflecting a wide gestational window. This translates to 196-216 days, after which a single calf, about 10 % of the mother's weight, is born. The newborn can stand and run within 20 minutes, allowing it to flee predators almost immediately, a crucial adaptation for a species that lives under constant threat.
- Only about the length of a school ruler, the blue duiker stands 32-41 cm tall at the shoulder and weighs just 3.5-9 kg, making it the tiniest duiker on the continent. Its head-and-body length stretches 55-90 cm.
- Molecular clocks place the blue duiker's lineage apart from other duikers about 8.73 million years ago in the late Miocene, and its split from the closely related Maxwell's duiker occurred 2.68-5.31 million years ago.
