• A sheep's pupils are horizontal rectangles, not circles. They can see nearly 360 degrees without moving their head — only a small blind spot directly behind them. This came from 5,000 years of selective breeding by humans, not their wild ancestor. It lets them spot a predator while grazing, and watch multiple lambs at once.
• Sheep can recognize and remember up to 50 individual faces — both other sheep and humans — for over two years. They also have best friends within their flock and will stress noticeably when separated from them. Brain scans show the neural patterns are strikingly similar to humans remembering a friend's face.

• Merino sheep can go without drinking water for longer than any other livestock — up to 14 days in dry conditions. • Sheep have been selectively bred for so long that they've diverged into 1,000+ distinct breeds, from fat-tailed Syrian sheep to hairless Katahdin sheep that shed naturally.
