• The agile wallaby's tail is long and flexible, extending the animal's overall length to roughly twice the measurement of its head and body. Both males and females share this proportion, and the tail's tip is coloured black, matching the dark edging on their relatively large ears. Their backs display a sandy brown hue while the underparts are whitish, giving the species its characteristic sandy appearance.
• During the dry season the agile wallaby expands its diet beyond grasses, turning to the roots and stems of young Livistona palms when food is scarce. In Boodjamulla National Park it has been seen pulling up these seedlings with its teeth, discarding the leaves and consuming the underground parts, while also eating the palms' fruits and hard seeds when they are available.
• When water sources dry up, the agile wallaby will dig shallow holes in dry creek beds and billabongs to locate subsurface moisture, a behaviour thought to reduce encounters with saltwater crocodiles that lurk along riverbanks. This habit is especially useful because the species often lives near rivers and billabongs within its typical dry open woodland, heath, dune and grassland habitats.
