• It can grow to about 130 mm and its body is a yellow colour mottled with darker blotches, while the tentacles display a blue-grey hue. Younger individuals are noticeably darker, the tail is pointed and the pneumostome sits toward the rear of the mantle, and the slime it leaves can be yellow or colourless.
• A reliable way to tell Limacus flavus apart from its close relative is the attachment point of the bursa copulatrix duct, which joins the free oviduct some distance from the penis. In the other species the duct attaches to the penis base or the atrium. External markings are less dependable, though in the British Isles L. flavus often shows a pale line along the back's midline, a feature not consistently seen elsewhere.
