Spotted House Gecko

Fascinating facts about the Spotted House Gecko

• Across the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, the Philippines, and Indonesian islands, a tiny flat-bodied lizard slips unseen into homes, showing that a single species can thrive from Thailand to New Guinea.
• When a predator grabs its tail, the lizard grows a new one, but the replacement never matches the original, its texture changes and the colour looks off. This imperfect rebuild reminds us that nature’s quick fixes come with lasting trade-offs.
• During courtship, males whisper a series of quiet clicks, while both males and females can chirp or bark; a startled individual will wave its tail and hiss like a tiny snake. These varied sounds highlight a surprisingly rich vocal repertoire for a creature that often goes unnoticed.
• Strictly insectivorous, it hunts roaches, crickets, flies, spiders and even wasps.
