Fascinating facts about the Mountain Treefrog

Even though it’s called the state amphibian of Arizona, the mountain treefrog actually never lives there – the state’s official frog is a close cousin, Dryophytes wrightorum, that was once thought to be the same species. This mix-up shows how tricky frog taxonomy can be, and why precise naming matters for conservation policies.
The mountain treefrog makes its home across three Mexican habitats – mesquite grasslands, scrub forests, and pine-oak forests.
Despite being widely spread across Mexico, the species faces no major threats today.
