About the Lesueur's Frog

Lesueur's frog, a ground-dwelling tree frog of south-eastern Australia, commands attention with its striking palette. Females grow to a respectable 7 cm, while males linger at about 4.5 cm, their backs shifting from pale to dark brown and, in the breeding season, flashing a vivid yellow that rivals sunrise. A dark stripe traces the snout to the shoulder, and the legs betray a flash of blue speckled with black, an unmistakable cue that sets this species apart from its close cousin, the stony creek frog. The eyes are half-pale, half-dark, and the small toe discs cling to the slick stones of their watery world, while a clean white belly hints at their secretive life beneath the surface.
