• The Granada hare runs at 56 kilometres per hour across rocky Mediterranean scrub — faster than a greyhound — thanks to hind legs that are disproportionately longer than its front legs. This imbalance lets it accelerate explosively uphill, where most predators falter. It's built not for steady speed but for sprint-and-dodge in terrain where every boulder is an escape route.
• Litters of five to seven leverets are born fully furred with their eyes open, ready to scatter within hours of birth — a strategy called precocial development. The mother nurses them only once or twice a day, sometimes hiding each leverets in a separate location so a single predator encounter doesn't wipe out the entire brood. It's reproduction as a numbers game: abandon most to save some.
