• A 30-centimetre lizard that runs on its hind legs at 26 kilometres per hour — faster than you can sprint — and only touches the ground with its back feet when it panics. The front legs fold against its body like a T-Rex, a biomechanical trick that lets it outmanoeuvre predators through boulder fields where four-legged rivals get tangled up.
• Male Eastern collared lizards wear electric blue, orange, and yellow stripes that would look photoshopped if you saw them in the wild.
