• Found in the Mekong, Chao Phraya, and Mae Klong basins as well as the northern Malay Peninsula, this species lives in ponds, ditches, canals, and reservoir edges that are no deeper than 2 metres (6 ft 7 in).
• It prefers water with a pH of 6.5-7.0, hardness of 5-12 dH, and temperatures between 22 °C and 26 °C (72-79 °F).
• In a tank, the fish forms tight schools that race back and forth at mid- and upper levels, and it gets along peacefully with loaches, tetras, livebearers, plecos, and rainbowfish.
