• Males of the Arizona mantis are drawn to artificial lights and will often circle lamps in large numbers. Because females are larger and much more robust, they never fly, so only the males are seen around lamps. Their attraction to light makes them a common sight at night near streetlights and porch bulbs.
• Female Arizona mantises can reach three inches in body length, placing them among the largest mantids native to North America. Males are smaller, growing to about two inches, which creates a clear size gap between the sexes.
