- A pair of chambered nautiluses were seen feeding on a two-spot red snapper at a depth of 703 metres, which set the record for the deepest observation of any nautilus species. This unusual predation event occurred far below the typical shallow-water habitats of the snapper. The snapper, normally a coral-reef fish, became an unexpected meal at that abyssal level, highlighting the occasional overlap of deep-sea scavengers with reef species.
- The two-spot red snapper is a long-lived, slow-growing fish that does not reach sexual maturity until eight to nine years of age. Because it matures so late, individuals can persist for many decades, with the oldest known specimen recorded at 56 years.
