• A sidewinder leaves J-shaped tracks across the sand, but it's not wandering randomly. Each loop is a physics solution: by moving sideways instead of forward, the snake touches only two short sections of hot desert ground at a time, cutting its skin temperature exposure by up to 10 times compared to other snakes.
