• When a greater earless lizard sprints across hot sand, it lifts its tail high and runs on its hind legs like a tiny dinosaur — a behaviour called 'bipedal running' that lets it cross scorching ground faster than its four-legged sprint. Scientists discovered the lizard's skin can withstand sand temperatures above 60°C (140°F), hot enough to kill most reptiles in minutes.
