• A Pacific banana slug can stretch to 25 centimetres long — nearly the length of a ruler — yet weighs only as much as three grapes. Their body is 90% water, which means they can compress to half their size to squeeze through cracks in rotting logs where they hunt for fungi.
• When two banana slugs meet, they perform a mucus duel: they bite each other's sides, exchange sperm, and sometimes eat the other's penis afterward.
