• A harp seal pup gains 2 kilograms per day for just 12 days — the fastest growth rate of any mammal on Earth. By the time it's weaned, it has quadrupled its birth weight and built a blubber layer thick enough to survive Arctic water that would kill most animals in minutes. This compressed childhood is a race against melting ice.
• Harp seals navigate 5,000 kilometres across open ocean using a biological GPS that reads Earth's magnetic field like a map.
