• A male greater kudu's spiral horns can grow to 1.6 metres long — so tightly coiled they make nearly two full rotations — yet weigh only 8 kg. These aren't weapons for combat; they're designed to slip through dense woodland without snagging. When two males spar, they lock horns in a twist rather than a clash, like wrestlers testing grip strength instead of trading blows.
• Greater kudus can jump 3 metres vertically and leap 9 metres across open ground, yet they refuse to jump over a fence they can't see through first. This paranoia saved them during colonial hunting: when stockades were built, the animals walked straight into them rather than vault over barriers they couldn't visually assess. Their eyesight is exceptional, but their instinct is pure caution.
