- A giant panda weighing 117.5 kg can generate a bite force of 1 298.9 N at its canine teeth and 1 815.9 N at the carnassial teeth, which is the strongest bite relative to body size of any bear. This powerful bite is supported by the species' enlarged molars and expanded temporal fossae that evolved to meet its bamboo-based diet.
- The panda's "thumb" is actually a modified sesamoid bone rather than a true digit, yet it functions like a thumb by allowing the animal to grasp bamboo securely while feeding.
