This comprehensive review updated the 2008 assessment and gave a fresh picture of each species' extinction risk. • Although the overall decline of Atlantic reef coral cover remains dangerously high, the pace of loss has unexpectedly slowed in recent decades, according to the study's model of coral cover loss from 1989 to 2019.
