It races up vertical tree trunks at 24 km/h, then flips mid-air to pursue fleeing squirrels through the canopy. Rainforest prey learned long ago that height offers no escape.
• At just 1.5 kg, a yellow-throated marten hunts animals twice its size — civets, young primates, monitor lizards. It achieves this through bite-force precision and social cooperation; they travel in pairs or small groups, cornering prey in the dense Southeast Asian understory where solitary hunters would starve.
