• A face so angular it looks photoshopped — the Tibetan fox has a skull shaped like a wedge, with a jaw that narrows to a point sharper than most carnivores. This extreme geometry gives it a bite force concentrated on a needle-thin tip, perfect for piercing the thick skin of pikas and voles. No other fox has evolved this skull shape. It's a living scalpel, proof that the Tibetan Plateau's extreme isolation has sculpted predator and prey into forms found nowhere else on Earth.
• Living above 3,500 metres where oxygen levels are 40% lower than sea level, the Tibetan fox survives on an oxygen budget that would suffocate most mammals.
