• A male sunshine peacockfish can change colour from electric blue to burnt orange in under 60 seconds — faster than you can hold your breath. These aren't mood swings; they're a visual language. The shift signals dominance to rivals, attraction to females, and submission when outmatched. Each hue is packed with pigment cells that work like tiny shutters, layering light in ways that create colours nowhere else in the reef.
• The sunshine peacockfish's 'peacock' eyespot on its dorsal fin isn't decoration — it's a decoy.
