Saddled Prominent

Fascinating facts about the Saddled Prominent

• The moth's prevalence in warbler diets showing that black-throated blue warblers track prey availability in real time. Researchers linked diet composition directly to changes in arthropod abundance surveyed over the green season, confirming that birds adjust their foraging to match what's out there.
• The researchers examined 98 fecal samples and pulled out 395 taxa from 17 arthropod orders, pinpointing 242 to species level, with Cecrita guttivitta (saddled prominent moth).
• Warblers' menus shift as the season progresses. The study noted that diet composition varied across survey periods while elevation zones mattered less, and that diet richness peaked early in the season.
