Within Europe the species behaves as a migrant, leaving its southern strongholds each summer. It regularly travels from southern Europe and North Africa up into the northern parts of the continent, expanding its seasonal distribution.

• The rush veneer's forewings are unusually long and narrow, giving the moth a sleek profile. Their basic colour is a shade of brown, over which broad eight-shaped and kidney-shaped (reniform) markings appear in the discal and postdiscal zones. Additional dark brown spots punctuate the outer edge and the wing apex, adding contrast to the otherwise uniform surface.
