• The red-base Jezebel stretches up to 90 mm across, yet its wings are split into a stark black canvas punctuated by bright yellow and crimson patches that read like a painted flag. The male's upperside is black with a broad subbasal grey-white band that merges into a large bright yellow dorsal patch covering the apical two-thirds of the hindwing, while the underside adds a rich dark crimson patch at the base.
