• At 389 km/h, the peregrine falcon is the fastest animal on Earth — faster than a Formula 1 racecar at top speed. During a hunting dive called a stoop, they fold their wings and plummet at angles steeper than 60 degrees. A pigeon has zero chance to escape once spotted. This speed exists for a reason: prey birds evolved to dart and weave, so evolution built the peregrine into a living missile.
• Female peregrines are up to 40% heavier than males — unusual for raptors — which lets them hunt larger prey like pigeons and ducks while males take sparrows and swallows.
