• A single oleander aphid can birth 40 clones of itself in just 7 days — no male required. Each clone is genetically identical to its mother, and within two weeks those daughters are reproducing again. This is why a handful of aphids on your garden plant becomes thousands in a month. Evolution favours speed over diversity when resources are abundant, and the oleander aphid has weaponised asexual reproduction to colonise new plants faster than any predator can eat them.
