About the Oceanic Manta Ray

The Oceanic Manta Ray is the largest ray on Earth and one of the ocean's most intelligent animals. Cruising the warm, open waters of tropical and subtropical seas worldwide, these gentle giants move with extraordinary grace despite their wingspan exceeding 7 metres. Recognised by their broad, diamond-shaped disc, distinctive cephalic fins that curl into horn-like projections when not feeding, and the unique spot pattern on their pale white undersides, each individual is as identifiable as a human face. Unlike bottom-dwelling ray relatives, Manta Rays are pelagic and migratory, following seasonal plankton blooms across ocean basins and congregating in aggregations of hundreds of individuals.
