• The mallow skipper can colonise fresh limestone grasslands within a few years, often needing only a single mallow plant to establish a population. In Bavaria the species is found from about 100 m to 600 m altitude, with a focus between 200 m and 500 m, showing its ability to settle at low elevations.
• Its eggs are yellowish, hemispherical and covered with elongated warts that give them a prickly appearance, turning red as they develop. The surface is linked by low ribs, creating a textured shell that protects the embryo. These eggs are laid on the tops of mallow leaves, ensuring immediate access to food for the emerging larvae. The colour change to red occurs during development, signalling maturation before hatching.
