- From the Amazon lowlands all the way up to the Gulf Coast, this butterfly bridges tropical jungles and temperate suburbs. It lives from Peru north to southern Texas and peninsular Florida, showing how a single insect can thrive across a stretch of climate zones. Even when the weather turns cooler, occasional wanderers turn up as far north as Colorado, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and New Jersey, proving the species can survive brief forays into far-flung habitats. Humans have also moved it, establishing populations in Hawaii.
