• The kit fox is the tiniest of North America's four Vulpes species, and one of the world's smallest vulpines. Adults weigh only between 1.6 and 2.7 kg, a size that makes them lighter than many domestic cats. Their body length ranges from 455 to 535 mm, giving them a compact silhouette that aids movement through sparse desert cover.
• Its ears, spanning 71-95 mm, are disproportionately large, acting like radiators to shed heat. The same ears grant exceptional hearing, comparable to the desert-dwelling fennec fox.
• A kit fox will occupy more than 11 different dens over a single year, moving constantly across its territory.
