• Juvenal's duskywing lives in oak forests that stretch from southern Manitoba across southern Quebec and Nova Scotia down to Texas and Florida, making it a common sight throughout these eastern North American woodlands. The species relies on oak trees as a food plant for its caterpillars, which feed on oak leaves.
• The dark-brown skipper has a wingspan of 30 to 37 mm, a size that puts it above most other eastern duskywings. Both males and females display two to four white spots on each forewing, adding a subtle pattern to their overall dark colouration. Females stand out further with forewings that are noticeably grayer and more boldly marked than those of the males, giving each sex a distinct appearance despite sharing the same overall wingspan.
• In the eastern part of its range the butterfly produces a single brood that emerges from May through late June, timing its life cycle to the spring growth of oak leaves.
