- The green ringtail possum is the only member of its genus that lives in Australia, with every other Pseudochirops species restricted to New Guinea or nearby islands. This geographic isolation means the species occurs solely in the northern part of the continent, making it uniquely Australian among its relatives. Its presence therefore marks a distinct biogeographic outlier for the genus.
- Its entire known range is confined to a narrow strip of northeastern Queensland, squeezed between Paluma and the Mount Windsor Tableland. This tiny area represents the full extent of its distribution, and the possum does not occur outside this corridor. Such a limited habitat highlights the species' highly specialised regional presence.
- Although its coat is fundamentally olive-grey, the fur is interspersed with silver, yellow and black hairs that give it a greenish sheen, which inspired its common name.
