• A male golden-faced saki looks like it's wearing a theatrical mask — jet-black face, bright golden-yellow forehead and cheeks, eyes that stare straight ahead like a primate built for conspiracy. This isn't decoration. Males advertise their fitness to females through facial brightness, and the most vivid gold signals the healthiest males. Females, by contrast, wear drab brown, invisible in the canopy where they do most of the foraging while males hang back.
• Golden-faced sakis leap through the rainforest canopy with their tail clamped tight against their body, not swinging it for balance like most primates. That stiff tail acts as a rudder during jumps of up to 5 metres — they're built for explosive directional changes in the dense understory, where a howler monkey would be too slow and clumsy. Their eyes face forwards like a cat's, a rarity in primates, giving them the stereoscopic depth vision needed to judge those hazardous jumps in poor light.
• Unlike most primates, sakis are monogamous — one male, one female, for life.
