• The garden carpet moth occupies the whole Palearctic region, stretching from Ireland in the west to Japan in the east and reaching down into the Near East and North Africa. It is described as an abundant and familiar species throughout this range, indicating it is commonly encountered wherever it occurs.
• The garden carpet's wingspan measures only 27-31 mm, a size comparable to a small fingernail, yet its wing pattern makes it easy to spot.
