• Kirk's dik-dik can reach a top speed of 42 km/h, an impressive burst for such a diminutive antelope. When a threat is detected the animal darts away in a swift, zig-zag pattern, using the cover of thickets to evade pursuers. During this frantic flight it emits its characteristic trumpet-like "zik-zik" calls, which serve to alert nearby conspecifics and signal the presence of a mated pair.
• Only male Kirk's dik-diks grow horns, each measuring about 7.5 cm in length and curving backward with a corrugated surface. The basal half of each horn bears seven to nine annular ridges, a feature often concealed beneath the animal's head crest. These horns are absent in females, who instead display a slightly larger body size and a longer crest.
• In the wild a Kirk's dik-dik typically lives around five years, though some individuals manage to survive beyond a decade. Captive records show markedly longer lifespans, with males reaching up to 16.5 years and females up to 18.4 years.
