• A dik-dik weighs less than a bag of flour — between 0.7 and 1.6 kg — making it one of Africa's smallest antelopes. Despite its toy-like size, it survives in some of the harshest scrubland on Earth by never drinking water. It extracts all its moisture from the leaves and fruits it eats, a trick that lets it live in places where larger herbivores would die of thirst within days.
• The name itself is the animal's alarm call: a high-pitched 'dik-dik-dik' that explodes from its tiny throat when danger approaches.
