• Just under a centimeter tall, the cream-spotted ladybird fits on a fingertip, measuring only 4 to 5.5 mm long and 3.2 to 4.5 mm wide. Its tiny frame hides a striking palette: in Europe it stays maroon-brown with fourteen cream spots, while North America shows black, yellow, pink or even an all-black melanistic form.
• Spanning the whole Holarctic, this beetle lives from Alaska to Japan and from California to New Jersey. Its range stretches across North America, Europe, North Africa, the Caucasus, Siberia, the Russian Far East, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Mongolia, China and Japan, and it is especially common in England. Such a broad distribution shows how its diet of aphids and ability to overwinter in leaf litter let it thrive in forests, gardens and even agricultural fields throughout its range.

This protective layer lets the cream-spotted ladybird maintain its foothold even where the aggressive invader dominates, preserving its role as a natural aphid controller in gardens and farms.
