• A capybara's teeth never stop growing — they wear down 1 millimetre per month from constant grazing, meaning a single animal consumes roughly 3.5 kg of grass daily, the weight equivalent of 50 hamburger patties. If their teeth stopped growing for just a few months, they'd overshoot their own jaws and become unable to eat. This endless growth-and-wear cycle has stayed the same for over 10 million years.
• Capybaras spend up to 7 hours a day in water, and their eyes, ears, and nostrils sit on the very top of their heads — allowing them to watch for jaguars while almost entirely submerged. They can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes and can dive 1.5 metres deep.
