- The Brazilian squirrel roams the forested heart of South America, spanning most of Brazil and spilling into Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Colombia, Venezuela, and Argentina. It thrives not only in tropical rainforests, swamps, wet forests and gallery forests, but also adapts to human-made green spaces like urban parks, gardens and plantations.
- Palm nuts form the staple of a Brazilian squirrel's diet, supplemented by acorns and assorted tree and shrub seeds. When handling different palm fruits, they employ distinct techniques to crack open the hard endosperm, a skill they learn as juveniles.
