• A banded mongoose will deliberately eat a venomous snake — cobra, puff adder, or spitting viper — by flipping it onto its back, the one moment the serpent can't strike. This takes years of apprenticeship: pups watch adults, practice on dead snakes, then graduate to live ones. By age 6 months, they've mastered a hunting technique that would kill most mammals in seconds.
• Banded mongooses give birth to pups all on the same day, within hours of each other — a synchronisation so precise that researchers still don't fully understand how the females coordinate it. The entire troop then raises the litter as a unit, nursing each other's young. A single mother who gives birth alone will abandon her pups; survival depends on the collective.
• They mark their territory by rubbing their anal glands on rocks, grass, and each other — a living scent map updated constantly throughout the day.
