- Banded mongooses huddle in colonies that can swell to 75 members, but most packs hover around twenty individuals. At night they crowd into abandoned termite mounds, swapping shelters every two to three days. Their flexible den choice lets them thrive in varied habitats, from savanna to thorn-bush.
- The banded mongoose's menu is dominated by beetles and millipedes, but it also raids ant trails, crickets, termites, grasshoppers, caterpillars, earwigs and snails. When a prey item secretes toxins, the mongoose rolls the creature on the ground before eating.
