• Male scrub pythons grow up to a third longer and twice as heavy as females. Females hit sexual maturity at about 2.27 m (7.4 ft) snout-to-vent, while males are ready at just 1.34 m (4.4 ft). On the Tully River, average adult females measured 2.68 m (8.8 ft) and weighed 3.4 kg (7.5 lb), whereas males averaged 2.91 m (9.5 ft) and 5.1 kg (11 lb).
• The biggest female ever recorded was a 5.65 m (18.5 ft) giant caught near Palm Cove in 2000, weighing a hefty 24 kg (53 lb).
