• An aardvark's tongue is longer than its head and coated in sticky saliva that works like flypaper — it can snatch 50,000 termites in a single night without ever opening a termite mound's hard casing. The tongue retracts into a sheath in the roof of its mouth when not hunting, and it's so specialized that the aardvark cannot chew; termites slide straight down its throat into a stomach lined with grinding plates that act like a bird's gizzard.
• Those powerful front claws can excavate a burrow the size of a small room in under two hours, and aardvarks dig with such force that they sometimes disappear underground while you're watching.
