- At just 18 to 19 cm long, the superb starling fits on the tip of a ruler, yet it thrives from sea level up to 2,650 m (8,690 ft) across East African savannas. This tiny size lets it dart among thornbushes and acacia, while its altitude flexibility means it can nest on low-lying lake shores or high-altitude woodlands, showing how a modest body can exploit a huge vertical slice of the landscape.
- The superb starling feeds primarily on the ground, often below, or in the vicinity of acacia trees, hunting grasshoppers, beetles, termites, ants, flies and worms, and supplementing its diet with grains, fruits and small berries. gregarious bird that is generally tame and unafraid of people.
- Breeding timing varies by country: in Ethiopia the season runs from October to February, while in Somalia it stretches from March to June.
