Its forewings display a grey-white ground colour tinged with brown and are finely dusted with blackish speckles, with distinct transverse lines and a clear discal mark that is pale-centred and dark-ringed.
- Male pale oak beauties possess a specialised fovea on each forewing. This feature sits on a forewing that is convex along its outer margin, giving the wing a subtle outward curve, and together with the wing's fine blackish dusting and transverse lines aids in identification.
- Adults of the pale oak beauty emerge in a single generation each year, taking to the wing from the end of April through July. This flight period has been recorded specifically for Belgium and the Netherlands, although timing may shift in other parts of its extensive range.
