Marbled Goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) lives in fresh and brackish waters across Southeast Asia. It feeds on unspecified diet. Its conservation status is Least Concern.
The marble goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) inhabits fresh and brackish waters of the Mekong and Chao Praya basins and rivers across Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indochina, the Philippines, and Indonesia. It can reach a length of up to 65 cm (26 in), though most individuals are under 30 cm (12 in). The species is economically important, sought after by local commercial fisheries, farmed, and occasionally kept in the aquarium trade. Among Chinese communities its white flesh is believed to have healing properties, especially after surgeries or childbirth, which contributes to high market prices where wild catches dominate. In Thailand it appears in folklore as the golden “pla bu thong” (ปลาบู่ทอง), inspiring television series and movies with Cinderella-like narratives.
