• In the southern United States, adults take to the air from March through September, squeezing out two full generations in a single warm season. Move north to eastern Ontario and the window narrows to May-July, while Ohio sees activity from April to August. Farther north, only one generation manages to develop each year.
• From the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia all the way to the Pacific shores of California, the American lappet moth also reaches north into British Columbia and the Yukon, stretching down to the subtropical edges of northern Florida.
• Caterpillars of the American lappet moth munch on a diverse menu that includes alder (Alnus), birch (Betula), oak (Quercus), poplar (Populus), willow (Salix), Ceanothus velutinus, Chrysolepis chrysophylla and members of the rose family (Rosoideae).
