• A single African giant snail can lay 400 eggs in a clutch—and it's hermaphroditic, meaning any two snails meeting will both leave pregnant. One breeding pair introduced to Hawaii in the 1950s became 18,000 snails within a year. They've since become an ecological nightmare across the Pacific, eating entire crops and stripping bark from trees until they collapse.
• At 20 centimetres long and 900 grams, this snail carries a shell heavier than a smartphone. Its muscular foot secretes a slime trail so efficient that it can cross rough terrain faster than snails half its size—a biomechanical advantage that makes it unstoppable when invading new ecosystems.
